What will you cover in “How To Practice, Vol. 3: Developing A Linear Language”?
- In How To Practice, Vol. 3, we begin by utilizing materials (Scales, Triads & 7th Chord Arpeggios), and expand upon these basic materials by demonstrating how to practically apply the materials within the context of chord changes, and how to transform our basic materials into Linear Language for soloing.
- To maintain our focus throughout How To Practice, Vol. 3, we will be limiting ourselves to only two standard chord progressions frequently used by musicians in Jazz/Improvised music. We have limited ourselves to these two chord progressions as they both contain chord types (Major, Minor, Diminished and Augmented), and practical instances of ii-V-Is (both Major and Minor) that are vital parts of just about any chord progression that you’ll solo over in modern contemporary music. Both chord progressions provide you with a basic harmonic framework that can be applied to just about any other set of chord changes.
- In this online masterclass, you will be able to access 44 lesson selections (including a total of 40 lesson videos) across a total of 5 sections (Introduction followed by Sections 1-4), featuring in-depth theoretical explanations with all musical examples notated in Standard Notation and TAB. All instructional videos are presented by Ben Eunson, and feature optional English subtitles.
What will you cover in “20 Melodic Etudes For Rhythm Guitar”?
- We'll be focusing on 20 Rhythm Guitar Etudes, exploring the melodic, linear and chordal vocabulary that is shared between rhythm and lead guitar approaches, resulting in a contemporary style of rhythm guitar playing that I like to call Melodic Rhythm Guitar. You'll primarily hear this style of accompaniment in Contemporary Jazz, R&B and Soul-influenced music, and it draws heavily from a classic Chord-Melody approach often heard in the realm of classic Jazz Guitar. We're going to look at 20 Etudes that demonstrate this approach in great detail, and we'll be exploring this approach to rhythm guitar over a variety of chords, including Minor 7 chords (Ab Minor 7 & Ab Minor 11 chords), Dominant 7 chords (Db13sus4 & Db7#5#9 chords) and Major 7 chords (Gb Major 7). In this online masterclass, you will be able to access 21 lesson videos across a total of 5 sections, featuring in-depth theoretical explanations with all musical examples notated in Standard Notation and TAB. All instructional videos are presented by Ben Eunson, and feature optional English subtitles.
What will you cover in "How To Solo With Triads"?
- We will be looking at how to expand your knowledge of Triads on the guitar neck, providing full explanations of how Triads function diatonically within a given key, how to utilize Primary Triads when soloing, how Triads can be used to play Chord Melody phrases on guitar, how to utilize Spread Triads, and more. We will be focusing on soloing with Major, Minor and Diminished Triads. Also included are 5 improvised phrases based solely on Triads. In this online masterclass, you will be able to access 20 lesson videos across a total of 5 sections, featuring in-depth theoretical explanations with all musical examples notated in Standard Notation and TAB. All instructional videos are presented by Ben Eunson, and feature optional English subtitles.
What will you cover in “Improvising With J.S. Bach”?
- We will be looking at how you can expand and develop your soloing language by learning and subsequently analyzing Violin Partita No. 1 in B Minor, BWV. 1002: II. Double - a specific Violin variation composed by J.S. Bach (derived from "Sonatas And Partitas For Solo Violin", a collection of 6 works composed between 1703-1720). We will be playing/analyzing this particular variation as it contains a vast array of Arpeggios, Scales and Melodies that can easily be adapted/applied within the context of contemporary harmony. Additionally, this particular variation works perfectly within the range of a standard electric guitar with 20-22 frets. We will subsequently analyze 10 examples taken directly from Violin Partita No. 1 in B Minor, BWV. 1002: II. Double which will be approached within the context of contemporary harmony, assisting in the development of modern improvisational language derived from Bach.
